2017 Great American Solar Eclipse

Metropolis will be a prime viewing location for the 2017 Great American Solar Eclipse on August 21st, 2017.  One of only a few places nationwide that will experience a TOTAL solar eclipse, Metropolis is ready to go dark for 2 minutes and 23 seconds.  Predictions indicate the total eclipse will begin at 1:21 pm CST.  Maximum Totality will be reached at 1:23 pm CST and totality will end at 1:24 pm CST.

Market Street, Street Fair

Festivities will begin on Sunday, August 20th on Market Street from Noon – 8 pm. Retail stores will be open throughout the day. Live bands, Helicopter Tours, Carriage Rides and Bounce Houses and Food Vendors will add to the Fun!

718 Brew Cafe will have a DJ & Karaoke from 6-10 pm.

 

Where is the Sun Run for Fun

On Sunday evening, at 7pm there will be a 3 mile Fun Run. The scenic route will begin near the Lois Lane Statue and take you by landmarks including the Superman Statue, Harrah’s Metropolis Casino, Dorothy Miller Park and more.

Eclipse Viewing Party

We are moving the party to the banks of the Ohio River at Dorothy Miller Park to view the eclipse, from 11 am – 3 pm.

There will be vendors, food, entertainment & lots of fun for your family, including helicopter tours, carriage rides and balloons animals & bounce houses for the kids! Also on Sunday evening, beginning at 7 pm is a 3 mile Fun Run. The scenic route will begin near the Lois Lane Statue and take you by landmarks including the Superman Statue, Harrah’s Metropolis Casino, Dorothy Miller Park and more.
